After winning the exciting, challenging contract for the Westphaliapool with Dr. Krieger Architects and Engineers, we immediately proceeded to work on preliminary designs and outline plans for the technical installations, in accordance with fixed project parameters. Due to the very brief time allocated to the entire project – 24 months in total for tender, planning and execution – we needed to obtain all necessary approvals, permits and client decisions early on; having achieved this, we could then do extensive 3D designs directly in all subsections in order to guarantee adhering to the schedule as well as the budget.

Based on the detailed, three-dimensional planning data, all subsections could be put out to tender within a very short time so that all contracts were already awarded in May, for the start of the project in June 2008.

Following a Europe-wide bidding process with various technical side contracts, we were able to realise, in co-operation with the client and the operator, the best possible contracts regarding investment and operation cost. Within a construction time of only 18 months all technical installations, conforming to the latest state-of-the art technology, were implemented, with special attention paid to resource-preserving tech- nology for all media like water, heat, electricity and also means of production or personnel costs. Heat is produced by a local heat exchange system using waste incineration and for all heat consumption for ventilation and pool water heating, suitable heat recovery components are used. Backwash water accrued from filter rinsing is recycled to pool water and service water according to DIN standard 19645.
